The sacrament of baptism is the way in which all Christians become part of the Body of Christ.  If you have already been baptized with water in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, you are a member of the Christian Church and may be registered as such on the rolls of any Episcopal congregation.  Contact our Parish Administrative Assistant, Pattye West, to request a transfer of your membership from your current church.

All baptized Christians may receive Holy Communion in an Episcopal Church.  If you have not been baptized, Episcopal practice allows both infant baptism (to affirm the primacy of God’s action) and baptism of believers (to affirm the necessity of Christian faith and commitment).  Baptism is usually by pouring though baptism by immersion may be requested.  Membership in St. Michael’s or any Episcopal Church is attained by regular attendance and participation.

Many adults (persons 16 years of age or older) seeking entry into church membership take the formal path of instruction and baptism for those not previously baptized and for those previously baptized.  It is normal for them to be presented to our bishop for reception into the church using the Rite of Confirmation.  If you have further questions regarding membership please contact our Parish Administrative Assistant, Pattye West.

We feel newcomers and new members are very important.  We offer several opportunities to welcome you into the larger life of the parish.  Members of our congregation would like to be a shepherd or Christian guide to introduce you to other members and assist you in entering into fellowship in classes or small groups.  Newcomers are invited to attend our regularly scheduled Newcomer dinners held quarterly on Sunday evenings from 6 PM – 8 PM.  Watch the Announcements for scheduled dates.  The Newcomer dinners are an opportunity to learn more about St. Michaels, have fellowship and enjoy a potluck supper provided by current members.

What is Expected of members?

Members are expected to:

  • Confess and accept Jesus Christ as your Savior.
  • Follow and obey him as your Lord.
  • Worship God every Sunday in his Church.
  • Work, pray, and give of time and money for the spread of his Kingdom.

No Christian can claim to know everything there is to know about living the Christian life or that their personal spirituality is perfect.  Therefore, in addition to Sunday worship, all Christians need to set aside regular time for prayers, the study of scriptures, reading Christian books, and participating in some form of Christian nurture like classes or small groups.  As a Christian you will want to grow ever more deeply in your faith and relationship with God, your understanding of the Lord, and your living as a Christian.  At St. Michael’s we offer a variety of Christian Formation, Pastoral Care and Outreach ministry experiences.  For new members we offer a Catechumanate class for fellowship, Bible study and instruction on the Church and our faith.  Watch the Announcements for dates of the next Catechumanate scheduled class.
