This class was begun in 2007 as a place for parents to meet and discuss a variety of issues from basic discipline and helping children find God to teaching our children not to be entitled. Our mission is to raise our children in a Godly way, reflecting the principles and teachings of Jesus. Another goal was to build community with one another. Through this process, we have deepened our own relationship with God by questioning and clarifying our own beliefs while reconnecting with the awesomeness of God’s power and grace. We embark on this journey within an atmosphere of tolerance and acceptance of others’ ideas. Currently, we are conducting a lectionary discussion, tackling such meaty and diverse issues as the transfiguration to teaching sexuality to our children. Additionally, we organize a variety of social outings from gatherings and pot lucks at various homes to a recent outing to Keenland.
My own experience being a part of this small but committed band has been nothing short of inspirational. I had missed being a part of a community that shared ideas and musings about Jesus. Through our discussions and fellowship, I realized that I had become spiritually stagnant and my relationship with God was not where I wanted it to be. This class has helped me immensely in strengthening my commitment to God and in imparting and more importantly, modeling that commitment to my boys. You can’t ask more from a class than that.
If you have children infant to school-age, please come and join us! We meet every Sunday during the Sunday school hour in the Old Undercroft. (on the fourth Sunday of each month we meet in the St. Michael’s School Library.)
