Announcing the New-9 and New-11 Masses

St. Michael's celebrates the return of:

  • The Contemporary Mass, known as the 9-Oclock Service, and
  • The Traditional Mass, known as the 11-Oclock Service.

During the Summer months we celebrate the Spoken Mass and a Blended Mass with elements from both the Contemporary and Traditional Mass forms.  Last fall, with the departure of our Assistant Music Director and then our Rector, our vestry chose to continue the Blended Service.

We will not be a going back to the “Old 9” or the “Old 11”; rather we will be going forward to a “New 9” and a “New 11”.  There will be aspects of the old services but there will be new aspects to each service as we broaden our understanding of the Contemporary and the Traditional Mass forms.

On May the 11th and May 18th the schedule will be a follows:

  • At 8:00 a.m.   Spoken Mass (Rite 1)
  • At 8:50 a.m.   Contemporary Mass (Rite 3)
  • At 10:05 a.m. Adult Church School
  • At 11:15 a.m. Traditional Mass (Rite 2)

We will return to the 8:00 a.m. Spoken Mass and 10:30 a.m. Blended Mass on Sunday, May the 25th and continue those forms thru Labor Day Sunday, September 11th.  The Blended Mass is sometimes Rite 2 and sometimes Rite 3.

On May the 18th we will also meet for another Sacred Conversation, in which we will examine what worked and what did not work in the New 9 and New 11 Masses.  What we learn will help us prepare for the return of these services in the Fall.
