The Outreach Committee helps the people of Saint Michael’s accomplish the charge from our mission statement by funneling our outreach efforts and by being faithful stewards of outreach funds.
The Outreach Committee Goals

- To encourage all parishioners to participate in outreach opportunities;

If you or your group is actively involved in a charity, you can request funds from the Outreach Committee to support that charity.
Our funds are limited, but we want to increase Saint Michael’s presence in the community by supporting the charities you support. To request funds please contact our outreach ministries.
Spare Change Sundays are used to collect money to support charities not covered by the outreach budget:
- 1st Sunday of the month is Spare Change Sunday. This supports a different charity every month.
- 3rd Sunday of the month is Meat the Need Sunday or Food of the Month Club Sunday. We collect food for God’s Pantry in this day.
- 5th Sunday of the month is Squeaky Clean Sunday. You are encouraged to bring in hotel sized personal care items for the Hope Center.
All "Spare Change" collected on these days go to the designated charity.
Mary Ann Overturf, Project Linus Chapter Chair
Project Linus has over 350 chapters nationwide and has given over 2,000,000 blankets to sick or traumatized children in the USA. Project Linus' Lexington Chapter celebrated its 6th birthday with a Make-A-Blanket-Day at St. Michael's on February 16th, 2007. At that event they created their 8,000th blanket.
Project Linus is a national 100% volunteer organization that gives blankets, for emotional comfort, to children from birth through age 18. In almost 6 years, our chapter has now delivered over 10,000 blankets to children in Central Kentucky.
The Lexington Chapter's first meeting was held February 14, 2002. Project Linus meets the 3rd Saturday of each month at St. Michael's, from 10:00 a.m. until noon. During the meetings we work on blankets, talk, sew on Proect Linus labels, sort and check blankets for pins etc., talk some more, have fun. We then deliver blankets to area agencies/hospitals, etc. Our meetings are very informal and full of wonderful people. Any person wanting to participate in Project Linus is welcome, regardless of religious affieliation... ... Our chapter has delivered 10,000 blankets to children in Central Kentucky.

Charlie Shanks, BUILD Coordinator
DART (Direct Action and Research Training) - The purpose of B.U.I.L.D. is to create a self-sustaining, interfaith, interracial, proactive organization, rooted in religious congregations, which is capable of creating system-wide, long-lasting change for low-to-moderate-income communities in Lexington/Fayette County, Kentucky.
The member clergy and congregations of BUILD take seriously the biblical injunction to “do justice” (Micah 6:8). This is what we mean by “direct action”—taking action to hold officials accountable for justice and fairness in our communities—rather than “direct service,” which is what many traditional nonprofits provide. Direct-service organizations deal with helping individuals (mercy); direct-action organizations like BUILD try to get at the root causes of community problems (justice).
Although St. Michael's is not a member of B.U.I.L.D., several of our members support the efforts of B.U.I.L.D.
