The celebration of the Holy Eucharist is central to worship in the Episcopal Church.  At St. Michael’s worship is the focus of our community, both on Sunday and during the week.  All baptized persons, including young children, share in the sacrament.  In sharing the Body and Blood of our Lord, we are strengthened and empowered for service.

The collect and lectionary texts are published each week to aid in your preparation for or review of the Sunday worship services.

The Episcopal Church uses the Revised Common Lectionary for Eucharistic Scripture Readings in our worship and education.

Each eucharistic lectionary year begins on the first Sunday in Advent.  The years in the triennial cycle are designated as “Year A”, “Year B”, and “Year C”.  When Advent falls in a year divisible by 3 it is the beginning of “Year A”.  Since Advent began in 2008, and 2007 was divisible by 3, we are now in “Year B”.

Laura Whayne, Altar Guild Member

The work of the Altar Guild may not always be obvious, but it is important for the celebration of the Eucharist and the various other services.  The Altar Guild cleans, polishes, and sets the altar for the Eucharist.

Being a member of the Altar Guild requires commitment and dedication, but it is also a way to strengthen one’s faith.  The Altar Guild provides the opportunity to serve the church, learn more about the church and its various services and feast days, and prepare the church as a place of worship for people.

Please consider joining an Altar Guild team.  Each Altar Guild team serves about once a month. All teams work together to prepare for the special services and celebrations for Easter and Christmas.

The purpose of the Floral Guild is to glorify God with flowers by providing fresh floral arrangements in the Sanctuary and on the Mary Altar on Sundays and special occasions.  Members of the Flower Guild rotate responsibility for each Sunday's flowers on a prearranged schedule.  All Floral Guild members work together, along with other volunteers from the parish to decorate the church for Easter and Christmas.

Any member of the parish may donate Sunday flowers in celebration of an anniversary or in honor or memory of a loved one.  We keep the sign-up schedule in the window alcove off the Narthex.  The suggested donation is $30.00.  The Floral Guild uses locally grown flowers in arrangements whenever possible, and we selectively use flowers from the grounds

Marguerite Casparian sketched the outline of the kneeling figure of St Michael on the cross-stitch canvass using the logo/figure that Fr. Peter Casparian had started using on publications around and for the church.  Charles Coulston did the cross-stitching for the banner, and we believe that Billie Malicote (the former Mrs. Carl Malicote) put the banner together with the red cloth border and backing.  Thanks to Charles Coulston for this information.
