Garden #2 - The Parking Lot Strip
This narrow space surrounded by pavement is tough on plants. It used to be mowed, but now it supports trees, shrubs, ornamental grasses and ground covers. Over the years, many plants have died in this dry space with its poor soil, but those which survived are happy. The eastern red cedars near the parking lot entrance are positively thriving under the stark conditions in which they live. At the other end of the strip the St. John’s wort ground cover, under one of the two Chinese elms, has spread slowly and handsomely.
