Caring About Community

At St. Michael's, we follow God's call to use our gifts to help others, whether sharing our space for prayer, welcoming those who are searching for a loving, safe congregation, or responding to our neighbors in need. Especially in this time of Coronavirus, we continue to share our gifts, giving help and hope to others.

Advent and Christmas are times when many organizations reach out help those in need.

How can we help?
  • Donate Money - St. Timothy's Episcopal Outreach Center is coordinating these efforts on behalf of the diocese. Financial donations to flood relief are needed for building materials, cleaning items, and other household and personal care items those who've lost so much as they find a way forward. You can give through the giving portal at https://onrealm.org/diolex/-/give/now or by texting “Diolex” to 73256 and choosing St. Timothy’s as the recipient.  You may also donate through St. Michael's, designated flood relief on your gift.
  • Offer Help - We need volunteers to help with flood cleanup and recovery in Estill and Lee counties. As more donations for flood relief are given, we are able to purchase more materials to repair and rebuild homes. Most work involves standing and some light to medium lifting and construction (cutting insulation, tearing out old sheetrock and wood, etc.). If you are willing to give some time, please fill out our Flood Relief Mission Team form. We hope to send small teams (4-5 people) up once a month for as long as needed. We welcome anyone who would like to help.
  • Share Love - We continue to pray for all who have been impacted by flooding and winter storms in Eastern Kentucky. Share ways we can help with friends and neighbors.  If you're able to volunteer, listen to their stories and be present with them. Too often, after a disaster is no longer in the news, it fades from our memories while the victims continue to struggle.

Feed the Hungry - Ongoing
The Saint Michael's, in partnership with God's Pantry, packs bags (backpacks) of food that are delivered to a local elementary school. Children who attend school are given these bags of food so they will have food for each weekend and over school breaks. This need continues even though school is not meeting in-person. During the time of pandemic, we have a small group of members who are purchasing and packing the backpack. We welcome financial gifts to support this ministry.
Appalachian Flood Relief
In March, many of our neighbors in Eastern Kentucky were devastated by historic flooding. Homes, businesses, churches, and schools were damaged. Over the next year, we will be sending work teams to Eastern Kentucky, as well as collecting funds for use in relief. Please see our home page for ways you can help alleviate the suffering of so many of our fellow Kentuckians.

Continue Community
While we rejoice in our time together during worship and other activities, we know that spiritual life is not confined to our beautiful building.  We also gather online, using social media to stay connected.
