Caring About Community
At St. Michael's, we follow God's call to use our gifts to help others, whether sharing our space for prayer, welcoming those who are searching for a loving, safe congregation, or responding to our neighbors in need. Especially in this time of Coronavirus, we continue to share our gifts, giving help and hope to others.
Although safety precautions prevent us from gathering to work together to alleviate suffering and to help those in need, we continue to respond to needs in the community. During Advent and Christmas, we have some special outreach opportunities for members and friends to support.
If you'd like to make an in-kind donation for our current outreach opportunities, you may bring items to the Church from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm Monday through Friday or contact the Church Office and we'll make arrangements if those times don't work.
Feed the Hungry - Ongoing
The Saint Michael's, in partnership with God's Pantry, packs bags (backpacks) of food that are delivered to a local elementary school. Children who attend school are given these bags of food so they will have food for each weekend and over school breaks. This need continues even though school is not meeting in-person. During the time of pandemic, we have a small group of members who are purchasing and packing the backpack. We welcome financial gifts to support this ministry.
The Commonwealth Forgiveness Project
Through December 31st
St. Michael's has partnered with 4 other area congregations to raise $35,000 to purchase and forgive medical debt burdening people of Appalachia. We are working with RIPMedical, which will use their resources to use our donations to purchase and forgive $3.5 million in medical debt. We welcome financial contributions in honor of a loved one this holiday season.
Christmas for Fayette County Juvenile
For the past few years, members and friends of St. Michael's have purchased gifts for the residents of Fayette County Juvenile Detention Center so they, too, will have Christmas. This year is no different. You may purchase items in-kind from the list (please purchase the EXACT items) or make a financial contribution to our Advent and Christmas Outreach Fund for us to purchase items. Financial contributions will be used to buy books for the young people.
Christmas for GreenHouse 17
Again this year we are supporting GreenHouse 17's Holiday Gift Drive for their residents. You can visit their website to see the items needed as well as the many ways to donate. Please note they need items by December 11th.
